Code of Conduct

Northern Virginia Youth Cricket’s philosophy is to promote excellence in youth cricket in an environment where all participants (players, coaches, umpires, parents and spectators) are treated in a respectful and encouraging manner.  This includes:

Parents being respectful and encouraging to their player and his/her teammates and opponents;

Parents supporting their player by providing them with the proper equipment, getting them to practices and games on time as designated by the coach and practicing with them at home;

Parents being respectful and encouraging to the umpire(s) during and after a match.  This includes no foul and abusive language and no “Come on umpire”.  Instead, “Good call umpire” encouraged and welcome.

Players being respectful of their teammates, coach(es) and opponents;

Players being respectful of the umpire(s);

Players learning and abiding by the Laws of the Game and learning the Rules of the league and teams in which they are playing;

Players not using foul and abusive language or gestures to their teammates, coach(es), opponents, umpire(s) or spectators at practice, or during or after a match.

Coaches being respectful and encouraging to their players and umpires;

Coaches learning and teaching the Laws of the Game and the Rules of the league in which they are playing;

Coaches modeling good sportsmanship to their players and their team parents/spectators.  This includes teaching the “uninformed” party about calls that are misunderstood.

Abusive Language or Gestures by coaches, players and parents or spectators towards an umpire, player or coach, will not be tolerated and is considered unsportsmanlike behavior.

Violation of any aspects of this Code of Conduct may result in a hearing before the league or club administrator for disciplinary action.  This action may be in the form of a reprimand, suspension or expulsion from NVYC or specific tournament
